WILLEMSTAD – A 26-year-old Venezuelan man was arrested late Saturday night after police found him in possession of a firearm during a routine check in the Kent U Zelf neighborhood. The incident occurred shortly after 11:30 PM near a local toko (convenience store), according to a police statement released Sunday afternoon. 

The suspect was brought before an assistant public prosecutor, who ordered his detention pending further investigation. Authorities have not disclosed whether the man is connected to any ongoing criminal cases or what type of weapon was confiscated. 

The police emphasized that routine patrols and checks like this are part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and combat illegal firearm possession on the island.
