CARACAS - The Venezuelan Minister for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, reiterated this Saturday that the air and maritime interconnection with the island of Curaçao will be restored on April 3, as with Bonaire by sea, while with Aruba the opening of transit by sea will be May 1st.
Through a message posted on his Twitter account @yvangil, the Foreign Minister pointed out that this schedule for reestablishing the border connection with the territories of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Caribbean was reached at the technical binational negotiation tables, which have already been completed.
In mid-December 2022, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry announced in a statement the start of technical talks for the gradual reopening of the maritime and air borders with the neighboring ABC Islands: Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire. This follows the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace raised by the Government of President Nicolás Maduro.
The reopening of traffic by sea and air, depending on the case of each island, translates into opportunities for the economic, social and cultural development of the towns twinned by strong historical ties.
The restrictions on the border between Venezuela and the ABC Islands began in February 2019, after the Government of President Nicolás Maduro was ignored by the authorities of the Netherlands, a situation that has been solved through political will, dialogue and the negotiation.
