WILLEMSTAD – In response to recurring egg shortages on the island, the Curaçao Business Association (VBC) is exploring a strategic partnership with Huevos Kikes, a leading egg producer in Colombia, to strengthen local food security and lower consumer prices.
Curaçao has experienced multiple periods of egg scarcity, often leading to increased dependency on costly imports from the Netherlands. But VBC believes a more sustainable and affordable solution lies closer to home.
In recent productive sessions, VBC representatives met with executives from Huevos Kikes, known for their high-quality and sustainable egg production. The aim: to create a strategic connection between the Colombian supplier and Curaçao’s own Eggs Farm Moderno, strengthening the island’s egg supply chain.
Why This Partnership Matters
According to VBC, the potential collaboration offers several key benefits for Curaçao:
Preventing Future Shortages: A stronger supply line from a regional partner like Colombia could help mitigate future disruptions in the egg market.
More Competitive Prices: Colombian eggs are significantly cheaper than those imported from the Netherlands, creating potential savings for local consumers.
Geographical Proximity: Colombia’s location means shorter transport routes, resulting in fresher products and lower logistical costs.
The VBC stated that this initiative is part of its broader commitment to practical solutions that reinforce the local economy and improve quality of life for all residents of Curaçao.
“This collaboration is a clear example of how regional thinking can generate concrete benefits for our island,” the organization said in a statement.
The VBC is expected to continue pursuing the partnership and other regional strategies to ensure food stability and economic resilience in Curaçao.
