THE HAGUE - The Dutch Caribbean islands will retain Alexandra Van Huffelen as their State Secretary for the time being. She anticipates staying in her position until May as the State Secretary for Kingdom Relations. Following the collapse of the Rutte IV cabinet last Friday, the government is now in a caretaker status.
The fate of the agreements made with the Dutch Caribbean islands will be determined after the summer recess of the Second Chamber. The Second Chamber holds the power to declare specific files as controversial. Van Huffelen is hopeful that she can continue contributing to the islands' economic growth, with poverty reduction being a top priority on her agenda. The optimistic D66 politician noted that during the previous cabinet's fall, none of the Members of Parliament controversialized any files related to the islands.
