WILLEMSTAD – U.S. Consul General Ramón (Chico) Negron paid an official visit on Tuesday, June 24, to the Joint Court of Justice in Willemstad. The meeting highlighted shared democratic values and a mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation within the judicial system.

During the discussions, representatives of the Court emphasized the importance of a well-functioning legal system as a foundation for public safety and economic development across the Dutch Caribbean. The Court provided an overview of its structure and operations, noting its jurisdiction over Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.
The visit also addressed pressing legal challenges in the region, including transnational crime, the need for capacity-building within the justice chain, and the exchange of legal expertise. According to Court officials, collaboration with international partners like the United States is essential to bolstering the rule of law in the region.
As a token of appreciation, Consul General Negron was presented with a photography book by artist Carlo Walle, a gift from Court President Mauritsz de Kort and Director Martin Luttge.
