U.S. Assistant Secretary of State visits Curaçao to strengthen ties and address regional issues

WILLEMSTAD - Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nichols is visiting Curaçao from October 28 to October 30, 2024, to bolster diplomatic relations and promote collaborative initiatives with the Dutch Caribbean. 

During his trip, Nichols will meet with key Curaçaoan officials, including Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Governor Lucille George-Wout, as well as other high-ranking leaders. His discussions will focus on advancing shared objectives related to sustainable economic growth, regional security, and enhanced educational opportunities in the region. 

In addition to governmental meetings, Nichols plans to engage with representatives from civil society, business leaders, and U.S. partner organizations in the area. A significant highlight of his visit will be the announcement of increased U.S. assistance aimed at improving English-language education and teacher training throughout the Dutch Caribbean. This initiative will prioritize inclusive access to higher education for all societal levels.
