WILLEMSTAD – Urvin ‘Nuto’ Wawoe is under investigation by the Public Prosecution Service for his alleged involvement in eleven murders, five attempted murders, large-scale drug trafficking, and money laundering. During the initial procedural hearing, Wawoe denied all charges and his defense demanded access to crucial encrypted PGP messages.
The criminal case against Wawoe was conducted via video link from the Extra Secure Institution (EBI) in Vught, the Netherlands, where he is currently held. The EBI houses inmates considered extremely dangerous. Wawoe was represented by Dutch lawyers Mr. Muuren and Mr. Sluis, while Mr. Alicia Blonk represented him locally in Curaçao.
According to the Public Prosecution, Wawoe was the leader of the criminal organization ‘No Limit Soldiers’ (NLS) between January 2014 and February 2021. Other members included S. “Tyson” Quant, C.S. Heilliger, Stephany P., and Robere L., many of whom have already been convicted.
So far, six witnesses have testified. The defense insists on full access to all PGP-encrypted phone messages used as evidence, arguing that key conversations that could exonerate Wawoe are missing. Additionally, some messages appear to contradict the prosecution’s interpretation.
Wawoe denies any involvement in the murders and expressed anger about his detention conditions. Lawyer Muuren argued that at least seven of the fifteen charges lack sufficient compelling evidence. A request to suspend the pre-trial detention was denied by the judge.
The full trial is scheduled for eight days over two weeks, on June 23, 24, 26, 27, and June 30, July 1, 3, and 4.
