WILLEMSTAD – Urvin Wawoe, also known by his alias ‘Nuto’, has strongly denied all allegations brought against him by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the opening of his long-awaited trial in the Themis case. Speaking in a heavily secured courtroom at the Suffisant Marine Barracks, Wawoe declared, “I emphatically deny all the charges brought by the Public Prosecution.”
The Themis case centers around serious accusations of organized crime, including multiple murders, attempted murders, and large-scale drug trafficking. One of the key charges involves allegedly ordering a deadly shooting at Hato International Airport in 2014, which resulted in the deaths of two men and injuries to several bystanders. Wawoe is also accused of violent crimes committed on Sint Maarten.
During the first day of proceedings, Wawoe appeared visibly tense. He expressed discomfort about the public nature of the trial, saying, “It’s difficult to speak openly here with all the media present and the names I recognize from the case file. I also have to think about my family.” He declined to respond in detail to the drug-related charges.
Wawoe refuted claims that he is the leader of the No Limit Soldiers, a group long suspected of criminal activity. “NLS is a music label. I am an artist, not a gangster,” he stated, distancing himself from the group’s alleged violent reputation.
The court presented past messages in which Wawoe referred to himself as the “no limit general”, a title often associated with gang leadership. He dismissed the message as a private remark to a woman, sent years ago and “in a completely different context.”
The trial, part of one of Curaçao’s most significant organized crime cases, is expected to continue for at least two more weeks. The prosecutor's closing arguments and sentencing demand are scheduled for Thursday, and a final verdict is anticipated in September.
