Urgent meeting in parliament over 'Ennia agreement'

Local | By Correspondent October 10, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Parliament has scheduled an urgent meeting for this afternoon, following a technical briefing announced earlier today. The central committee will convene at 2:00 PM to discuss the agreement that the Sint Maarten Parliament approved yesterday. Known as the "Main Agreement Resolution ENNIA," this agreement ensures that pensioners are guaranteed their pensions.

However, the Sint Maarten Parliament unilaterally added an addendum to the agreement, and the Curaçao Parliament wishes to consult on this matter. The addendum brings Sint Maarten an additional 37 million guilders, but the implications for Curaçao remain unclear.

Through the technical briefing, the Curaçao Parliament aims to clarify the potential consequences of the addendum and assess how it may affect the island. This discussion is crucial for the parliament as it seeks to protect the interests of its citizens, particularly pensioners, in the ongoing negotiations surrounding the ENNIA agreement.
