AMSTERDAM, WILLEMSTAD – The donated tables, chairs, books, laptops, and other essential school supplies for Curaçao are at risk of not reaching their destination on time. The Ban Yuda Nos Hendenan Foundation is temporarily storing these materials in an empty school building in Spaubeek, Limburg. However, the building is about to be demolished. The foundation is urgently seeking new storage space or financial support for transportation.
For over ten years, the foundation has been dedicated to shipping school materials and other aid to Curaçao. Previous shipments were made possible through private and commercial storage locations in cities such as Roermond and Maastricht. This time, the shipment consists of a full sea container containing not only school materials but also rollators and wheelchairs destined for healthcare facilities.
The ongoing challenge remains securing enough funds to cover the transportation costs. Fundraising efforts, including a garage sale and a Caribbean-themed event, are being organized to help raise the necessary funds. The foundation hopes to collect enough money soon, but if that doesn’t happen, the materials may remain in the Netherlands or be redirected for other purposes.
Founder Ederlin Peters-Zimmerman emphasizes the great need for the collected items on Curaçao. In addition to schools and healthcare facilities, even ex-prisoners have expressed interest in the materials, which could assist in their reintegration into society. Those interested in donating or supporting the cause can find more information on the foundation's website.
