Update COVID 19: 9th COVID 19 case confirmed; Government orders curfew

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao’s epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbltuh confirmed the 9th COVID 19 case in Curaçao. 1 has been added since yesterday. The doctor also announced that one person has been hospitalized. The doctor did not comment on this person’s condition. (more information to follow on these new numbers)

Dr. Gerstenbluth also indicated that as soon as there are local infections, we will have problems with our care capacity. Therefore, more measures are needed.

 

Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath announced more measures. The government has ordered a curfew from 9pm until 6am. All business must close at 6pm except for pharmacies, minimarkets, supermarkets, restaurants, BBQ stands, and gas stations. These must close at 7pm. Everyone must then be inside their house at 9pm. Parties are not allowed. These measures are until further notice.

Minister of Economic Development Giselle Mc William said that she had a meeting with all food importers, and they indicate that the supermarkets have enough stock for at least 2 months. There is no reason to panic.
