WILLEMSTAD - Graduates in Curaçao have recently been paying unjustified import duties on their diplomas for an indefinite period of time. This issue has now been addressed by the Curaçao Customs, who have confirmed that the error has been corrected. As of now, no import duties are required for receiving foreign diplomas.
It remains unclear how many individuals have been affected by this overpayment, as the issue primarily involved online courses or programs where diplomas were sent by mail from abroad. The situation came to light after an alumnus shared their experience in a Facebook group, prompting numerous responses from others who had faced the same issue.
Customs authorities have since clarified that no import duties will be applied to diplomas sent by mail or brought into the country from abroad. This correction aims to alleviate the financial burden previously imposed on students receiving their qualifications from foreign institutions.
