WILLEMSTAD – The University of Curaçao (UoC) and Magrid have announced a new strategic partnership, marking the beginning of the next phase of collaboration to strengthen innovation and research in education.
A delegation from Magrid visited the UoC campus for a productive exchange with University President Mrs. Stella van Rijn, faculty members, and Mr. Richard Delfina, representative of the Minister’s Cabinet. During the meeting, Magrid presented the results of a six-month pilot program conducted in Curaçao, which included both quantitative and qualitative findings. A comprehensive research report was officially handed over to the university.
Following the presentation, both parties formally agreed to move forward with the implementation of Phase 2 of Magrid in Curaçao, which will include:
Expanding the university’s involvement in the rollout of Phase 2.
Collaborating with pedagogy students and education-related training and workshop programs.
Offering specialized training on ethics and the use of technology in schools.
Establishing joint research initiatives, including long-term impact studies.
Creating a management commission to develop new initiatives, drawing on Magrid’s international expertise in technology, university spin-offs, and other strategic focus areas.
Promoting knowledge export initiatives.
Working together to establish a Center of Excellence.
Developing case studies to document and share best practices.
Within the Faculty of Arts (Algemene Faculteit), the partnership will be closely aligned with teacher training programs, including LOFO, and other pedagogical initiatives. Students and lecturers will actively participate in Magrid’s work through curriculum activities, internships, and research projects.
This collaboration aims to strengthen evidence-based practices in teacher training and contribute to the professionalization of Curaçao’s education workforce and the wider region. As a research-driven initiative built on data use, Magrid emphasizes scientific accuracy at the core of its work.
