WILLEMSTAD - The unions at the Isla refinery have called a strike this morning at 10. They are afraid that due to the problems at the Girobank no salary will be paid at the end of this month.
Consultation with the refinery provided no clarity.
The Girobank got into trouble on Tuesday when PdVSA wanted to claim a large part of its assets and the Central Bank intervened to prevent the bank from running out of cash.
There were panic at the gas stations on the island because the unions threaten to sabotage the supply of gasoline and diesel.
The question is whether that will succeed. After previous actions in the past, the government has set up a strategic stock to allow gas supplies to continue to be pumped.
