Union action and technical malfunctions cause delay for Selikor

Local | By Correspondent March 19, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Recent delays in garbage collection on the island have been attributed to a combination of union action and technical issues plaguing Selikor's waste management operations.

Ana Maria Pauletta, a Member of Parliament representing the PAR party, has voiced concerns over the situation and has pressed Selikor for answers. Despite expectations that the waste management company would have addressed the backlog by Monday, reports indicate that this has not been the case.

Pauletta emphasized the need for improved communication between Selikor and the public, highlighting that citizens pay a monthly fee of 35 guilders for the service. She expressed frustration over what she perceives as Selikor's failure to fulfill its obligations to residents.

As of now, it remains unclear when Selikor will fully catch up with its collection schedule, leaving streets dotted with overflowing trash cans. Efforts are underway to rectify the situation, but the timeline for resolution remains uncertain.
