UNESCO Curaçao Hosts Literary Festival for International Book and Copyright Day

WILLEMSTAD – In celebration of International Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO Curaçao organized a vibrant literary festival this week. The event, held in collaboration with the National Library of Curaçao, Instituto Nashonal di Idioma, and various local bookstores, took place at the exhibition space of Sambil Mall.

From 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, attendees were able to visit various booths, where they could gather information on books, copyrights, and related products. The festival offered an exciting program full of performances and presentations.

Storyteller Tito Ansano captivated the audience with engaging tales, while young participants from the Arte di Palabra project showcased their own performances. Students from Kolegio Fátima, UNESCO schools Don Sarto and Emmy Berthold, as well as students from SKAIH VSBO-AGO, read their own poetry and shared original stories.

A special session on intellectual property rights was conducted by the Bureau for Intellectual Property, focusing on the rights of authors when creating texts, books, poetry, or visual art. This presentation provided valuable insights on how creative works are legally protected.

The festival concluded with a free creative writing workshop, hosted by Rutsella Palm from Express Yourself Experience. Participants learned the fundamentals of creative writing, how to discover their unique writing style, and how to boost their confidence as writers. According to Palm, creative writing helps individuals communicate more freely and personally.
