Uncertainty surrounds Larmonie-Cecilia’s entry into parliament faction

Local | By Correspondent August 28, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) has not yet made a final decision regarding party leader Ruthmilda ‘Mimi’ Larmonie-Cecilia's potential entry into the parliamentary faction. It also remains unclear which current parliament member might have to step aside.

Since last week, the PNP has been in opposition after former coalition partner Movementu Futuro Korsou (MFK) withdrew its support from two PNP parliamentarians. Larmonie-Cecilia could gain a stronger platform as a political leader by joining the parliament.

PNP parliamentarian Elvin Gerard has expressed his willingness to step back if necessary. However, he has sharply criticized Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas (MFK), accusing him of acting unreliably during last week’s political crisis.

Gerard referred to Pisas’ false claims about negotiations with other parties, stating that an agreement had already been reached to maintain a majority in parliament. “The prime minister’s behavior is unacceptable,” Gerard said.
