WILLEMSTAD - Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, made a short visit to Curaçao last night. The Ukrainian leader made a fuel stop at Hato before continuing his journey to Washington, where he is scheduled to engage in discussions with U.S. President Biden regarding extended war support for Ukraine.
Zelensky's arrival followed his presence in Buenos Aires, where he attended the inauguration of the new Argentine president, Javier Milei. This marked Zelensky's first visit to South America since the Russian invasion.
Airport Security Measures
The closure of Curaçao's airport to the public on both sides was implemented around 02:00. The Airbus A319 carrying Zelensky touched down at 02:33 and remained at gate 4 for one hour and twenty minutes.
During the refueling process, in accordance with standard procedures, a fire truck was stationed next to the aircraft. The airplane was surrounded by three SWAT-jeep escorts, accompanied by airport security personnel, ensuring a secure environment.
