WILLEMSTAD – Police in Curaçao have arrested two men in connection with a car theft and an attempted extortion case that began earlier this year.
According to police, the investigation started on January 29 after a vehicle was stolen in Kaya Macario Prudencia. Authorities say the suspects later contacted the owner of the vehicle and demanded money in exchange for returning the car.
Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday afternoon. The men, aged 23 and 27, were both born in Curaçao.
Police said the suspects are currently being held while the investigation continues. An assistant prosecutor has ordered their pretrial detention.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the investigation progresses.
