WILLEMSTAD – Two people were injured in a serious traffic accident on the Weg naar Westpunt near Gato on Thursday morning, November 5, after a vehicle overturned close to the entrance of the landfill and a nearby gas station.
The accident prompted an emergency response involving firefighters, ambulance personnel, and police officers.
Firefighters from the Mundu Nobo fire station were called to the scene to free a person trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Emergency personnel worked to safely extract the victim before medical assistance could be provided.
Two injured individuals were subsequently transported by ambulance to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) for medical treatment.
The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
The accident caused significant traffic congestion along the Weg naar Westpunt, with a long line of vehicles forming as emergency responders attended to the scene.
Motorists traveling through the Gato area experienced delays, particularly near the landfill entrance and the gas station.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that caused the vehicle to overturn.
At this stage, authorities have not established whether speed, road conditions, mechanical problems, or other factors contributed to the accident.
