Two Arrested in Early Morning Auto Parts Theft Operation

Local | By Correspondent March 31, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao police apprehended two 20-year-old men in a pre-dawn operation Saturday near Seru Fortunaweg, following reports of suspicious activity involving vehicle parts.

The arrests occurred at 4:45 AM after authorities responded to a tip about individuals stealing bumpers from a car parked on Borokoponostraat. Officers quickly intercepted the suspects in their own vehicle, which contained not only the stolen auto parts but also motorcycle components and drug paraphernalia.

Police discovered multiple jackets inside the car, though their connection to the alleged crimes remains under investigation. The suspects' vehicle has been impounded as evidence, and both men remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.

This incident marks the latest in a series of auto-related thefts reported across Willemstad in recent months. Authorities have noted an increase in after-dark crimes targeting vehicle parts, prompting heightened nighttime patrols in affected neighborhoods.

The police department urges residents to report any suspicious activity near parked vehicles, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours. Investigators are working to determine if the arrested individuals may be connected to other similar thefts on the island.

No information about possible drug charges has been released as forensic analysis of the seized materials continues. The case is expected to go before a judge later this week.
