TV Direct refused at press meeting minister Javier Silvania

Local | By Correspondent March 10, 2023

WILLEMSTAD – Reporter Nicole Trinidad and her cameraman were refused entry yesterday at a press meeting organized by the Minister of Finance Javier Silvania in the new building of his ministry. He spoke there with the Curaçao Association of General Practitioners and then talked to the press.

Finance Minister Silvania has been assigned the post of Public Health since yesterday after fellow minister Pietersz-Janga resigned.

Silvania says in a statement afterward that TV Direct was not invited and that the press meeting was only open to invited media. TV Direct would also not have responded to a request for rectification.

In 2004, the now-deceased journalist Marjo Nederlof of the Amigoe was refused entry at a press conference of then Prime Minister Myrna Godett. The judge later ruled that the government is not allowed to do that, journalists must be able to do their job at all times, just like their colleagues.
