Turbulent flight to Curaçao leads to intervention by military police and local authorities

WILLEMSTAD - A flight from Amsterdam to Curaçao this weekend was marked by unrest due to several incidents involving Curaçaoan passengers. Tensions escalated to the point where some passengers required medical assistance, prompting the Military Police and local police to manage the situation upon arrival at Hato Airport.

The first incident occurred when a Curaçaoan man attempted to go to the restroom. He tried to pass by a Dutch passenger who deliberately kept his legs raised to block access to the aisle.

This led to a confrontation, during which the Curaçaoan man punched the Dutch passenger in the face. The crew had to intervene to prevent further escalation.

Shortly after, another altercation broke out when a different Curaçaoan passenger, visibly under the influence of alcohol, accused a woman sitting next to him of stealing his phone. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in heated exchanges and threats.

The woman denied the accusation and urged the man to behave. Ultimately, it was discovered that the phone was lodged between the seats, further inflaming tensions as the owner perceived the situation as a conspiracy.

Calm did not return, as a third Curaçaoan passenger, also intoxicated, caused trouble when he was unable to pay for the drinks he had consumed. A discussion ensued with the cabin crew, but the passenger ultimately resolved the issue by paying through a payment app on his phone.

Upon landing in Curaçao, both the Military Police and local police were waiting at the aircraft door to apprehend the involved passengers and take further action. The turbulent flight concluded with a series of arrests and investigations into the misconduct on board.
