Tropical wave east of the Caribbean islands

Local | By Correspondent August 5, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - A tropical wave is currently situated several hundred kilometers east of the Caribbean islands. This wave is generating an area of showers and thunderstorms.

Previous satellite wind data indicates that wind speeds just north of the wave range between fifty and fifty-five kilometers per hour. The environmental conditions appear generally favorable for some slow development of this system over the coming week.

The system is moving rapidly westward at a speed of over thirty kilometers per hour. The wave is currently passing the southeastern Caribbean Islands and is expected to move towards the central and western parts of the Caribbean by mid to late this week.

The chance of storm formation within the next 48 hours is considered low, about ten percent. The likelihood of development in the days following remains low, around thirty percent.
