Trial of Former MP Rennox Calmes Postponed to September

WILLEMSTAD The court case against former Member of Parliament Rennox Calmes has been postponed to September 1. Calmes, leader of the political party Trabou pa Kòrsou (TPK), has not yet appointed a lawyer and was strongly advised by the Public Prosecution Office to secure legal representation before proceedings begin.

Calmes is suspected of forgery involving salary documents. He allegedly falsified pay slips for three parliamentary staff members—possibly including one of his partners—in an effort to artificially inflate their salaries. The substantive hearing of the case is now scheduled for September 1.

The TPK leader resigned from Parliament on June 26, the same day he was arrested by the National Criminal Investigation Department (Landsrecherche). He was released two days later, but the charges against him remain. Authorities searched his home in Amerikanenkamp and his office in Punda, seizing several documents and other items as part of the investigation.

Calmes founded TPK in October 2020 after leaving the PIN party. A former police officer, he was first elected to Parliament in 2017 with PIN. In the 2021 elections, his new party secured one seat.
