WILLEMSTAD - Last Sunday, the government of Curaçao expanded the current measures to contain the cases of COVID-19 in Curaçao. The 'shelter in place' (stay at home) measure is intended to ensure that fewer people move on the street and thus prevent a possible spread of the virus. The Public Prosecution Service (OM), as part of the judicial chain charged with maintaining public order, also emphasizes the necessity and importance of good compliance with the rules set by the government. In this context, the Public Prosecution Service announces that for the 'shelter in place' (stay at home) measure - just as for the curfew measure - a fine of NAF 750, - applies.
If someone is out on the street between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. for no valid reason as indicated by the Curaçao government, this person will be breaking the rules and he or she will have to pay the transaction. The government sets strict and concrete rules for the reasons and times that a citizen can be on public roads during the day. Failure to comply will result in a fine of Naf 750.
Naturally, all other transaction amounts already mentioned in previous press releases, such as the amount of NAF 750, -, if someone is on the street between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. (so during the so-called curfew) will remain in effect.
The Public Prosecution Service warns everyone to strictly follow these measures regarding the prevention of COVID-19 in order to prevent further infection, but also to avoid a transaction amount that can increase if it goes to court.
