Local | By Correspondent February 26, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The fate of a Dutch military member took a somber turn after being reported missing on Saturday afternoon while snorkeling at Playa Porto Marie. Following an intensive search organized by the Maritime Operations Center of the Coast Guard, the lifeless body of the military personnel was discovered in the vicinity of Porto Marie.

Immediately after receiving the missing person report, the Coast Guard deployed both a helicopter and the DASH aircraft to support the search from the air. On the water side, a Metal Shark unit was used to thoroughly scan the coastlines. The search was reinforced by the involvement of volunteer divers from Kas Abou and Porto Marie Beach, as well as naval divers. Colleague military members also contributed by conducting searches on land.

It was a team of naval divers that ultimately found the body of the missing military personnel. They handed over the body to local authorities for further investigation. The precise circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
