WILLEMSTAD – The traffic situation on Caracasbaaiweg continues to worsen with each passing day, prompting urgent calls for action. Parliamentarian Croes has sent a letter to Minister of Public Works, Cooper, urging the implementation of a faster plan to address the growing congestion in the area.
The region, which includes Brakkeput, Caracasbaai, and Jan Thiel, is expected to see significant development over the next two to five years. According to Croes, traffic on Caracasbaaiweg is worsening day by day. While the area’s tourism and economic growth is flourishing, the infrastructure development required to support this expansion has lagged significantly behind.
Among the ongoing projects is a large-scale housing plan by APC in Brakkeput Noord, which involves 165 plots, each of which could potentially house up to two vehicles per residence. Additionally, a new apartment complex is under construction in Jan Thiel, and Brakkeput is set to feature a resort with parking facilities for more than 200 vehicles, not including those for hotel staff.
In his letter, Croes raises several critical questions for Minister Cooper. He asks whether the minister recognizes the immense traffic problem on the main road and acknowledges the danger the current situation poses. Croes also inquires whether there is a concrete and long-term plan to resolve the issue, particularly if funding for the necessary works will be included in the 2026 budget, and what the overall vision for the road will be.
Croes is urging Minister Cooper to respond to these questions and present a solution as soon as possible. With residents, tourists, and others relying on this critical road for years, the situation has now reached a breaking point.
