WILLEMSTAD – A tourist died Monday evening following a diving incident near Parke di Lucha in the Rif area of Curaçao, according to local police.
The police dispatch center received a report around 7:38 p.m. that several people were attempting to resuscitate a diver in the reef area.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found multiple individuals providing first aid to an unconscious man.
According to a statement from a man who had been diving with the victim, both were underwater some distance from the shore when the tourist suddenly became unresponsive.
The companion reportedly pulled the victim from the water and brought him back to shore.
Ambulance personnel continued resuscitation efforts before transporting the tourist in critical condition to Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).
Police later received confirmation that the victim had died.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the identity or nationality of the tourist.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
