Toastmasters and FDDK Partner Again to Empower Curaçao Youth Through Summer Games

WILLEMSTAD – For the second consecutive year, Toastmasters has partnered with the Fundashon Desaroyo Deportivo Kòrsou (FDDK) to support the development of young people in Curaçao through the FDDK Summer Sames. This year’s theme, “Speak Up, Shine Bright,” reflects the initiative’s goal of building communication skills and self-confidence among the island’s youth.

The Summer Games is one of Curaçao’s largest annual vacation programs for children, offering a wide range of physical, mental, and educational activities. Toastmasters contributes by focusing on the intellectual and personal development of participants in a fun and interactive way.

Building on Success

Last year’s collaboration was spearheaded by Past District Director Fabiola Cleofa, DTM, who gathered a group of Toastmasters to contribute to the program. This year, District 81 Public Relations Manager Miloushka Rosario, DTM, has taken over leadership of the initiative. Rosario, who was also involved in 2023, has expanded the project by bringing in more members to volunteer.

A Dynamic and Dedicated Team

The team has created a vibrant and educational curriculum focused on communication fundamentals and confidence-building. Eleven Toastmasters are working together to deliver the program: David Homoet, McNyzz Richards, Sirelda Osepa, Jeanthall Obia, John Damberg, Laurella Martis, Fabiola Cleofa, Anuska Ortega, Sinaï Mathilda, Regis Loo, and Michael Cassique.

Over the course of four days, this dynamic team will help local youth enhance their skills and self-esteem, ensuring that the Summer Games are not only fun but also a valuable learning experience.

Toastmasters in Curaçao

Toastmasters in Curaçao are part of a global network dedicated to helping individuals develop public speaking, leadership, and confidence. In a safe and structured environment, members practice speeches, impromptu speaking, and constructive feedback.

Local clubs, such as Curaçao Toastmasters Club and Eloquence Toastmasters, primarily operate in English but also accommodate contributions in Papiamentu or Dutch. Membership is open to anyone over 18, regardless of background or profession.

As the Summer Games continue, the collaboration between Toastmasters and FDDK stands as a testament to the power of community partnerships in shaping the next generation of leaders in Curaçao.
