Three suspects face court in golf investigation: serious charges and sentencing demands

Local | By Correspondent September 11, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Three suspects involved in the ongoing Golf investigation have made their appearance before the court. The individuals in question are G.G. and S.E., both serving as officers within the Curaçao Police Force (KP) and accompanying them is S.F. G.G. and S.E. are facing a range of allegations, including bribery, abuse of authority, and function, as well as the falsification of documents while serving as civil servants. S.E. also stands accused of granting credit without proper authorization. Additionally, S.F., who is already serving a ten-year prison sentence for his involvement in the arson of the Receiver's building, is now facing charges of bribing G.G. and S.E., along with a security guard from S.D.K.K., as well as the falsification of documents.

The Golf investigation is primarily centered around the issuance of permits for carrying firearms for self-defense purposes. This investigation has unearthed that those responsible for granting these permits allegedly misused their positions and accepted bribes, ultimately allowing individuals to possess firearms under false pretenses. The Public Prosecutor's Office has expressed serious concern over the involvement of police officers in this matter, particularly considering the ongoing issue of firearms within Curaçao.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has presented a series of sentencing demands, including a four-year prison term for G.G., a three-year prison sentence for S.E. with one year of conditional sentencing and a three-year probation period, and a two-year prison sentence for S.F. Furthermore, the Public Prosecutor's Office emphasizes the importance of preventing these police officers from continuing their duties, thus requesting a five-year removal from office penalty for both G.G. and S.E.

The court is scheduled to deliver its verdict in this case in just three weeks, on September 29th.
