WILLEMSTAD – Three men were arrested Monday evening after one of them allegedly attempted to run over a police officer during a routine check in the Otrobanda neighborhood.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. when a bicycle patrol unit from the police noticed the smell of marijuana coming from a car with three occupants. As officers approached the vehicle for inspection, the driver suddenly accelerated, striking one officer’s bicycle and fleeing the scene at high speed.
Chase Ends on Schottegatweg West
A police pursuit ensued, and the fleeing vehicle was intercepted on Schottegatweg West. Upon stopping the car, officers found a quantity of marijuana, which was seized as evidence.
The three occupants—Curaçaoan nationals identified as R.B. (31), L.L.B. (40), and A.S.J.J. (40)—were taken into custody and brought before an assistant public prosecutor.
One Suspect Remains in Custody
Following initial questioning, R.B. and L.L.B. were released. However, A.S.J.J., who is believed to have been the driver, remains in custody pending further investigation into attempted manslaughter of a police officer.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional charges will be filed or if further arrests are expected. The investigation is ongoing.
