WILLEMSTAD – Three law students with Caribbean roots have started a three-week internship at the Joint Court of Justice in Curaçao as part of the fourth edition of the Caribbean Summer Court program.
The Joint Court of Justice has relaunched this initiative, which is designed for university law students with above-average academic results who were either born in the Caribbean or spent part of their childhood on the islands.
Three Departments, Hands-On Experience
This year, three internship positions were available in Curaçao. Over the three-week period, the selected candidates will gain in-depth insight into judicial work, rotating through the Civil Law, Criminal Law, and Administrative Law departments. At the conclusion of the program, they will receive a certificate of participation.
For the 2025 edition, the chosen participants are:
Carina Pietersz, University of Amsterdam
Zoë Sabajo, Leiden University
Talisha Houben, Erasmus University Rotterdam
Official Oath Ceremony
On Monday, August 11, the students were sworn in as court clerks by Maroeska Scholte, Vice President of the Joint Court of Justice.
The Caribbean Summer Court program is seen as an important step in connecting talented young legal professionals from the Caribbean diaspora with the judicial systems of the islands, while offering them valuable practical experience in multiple branches of law.
