WILLEMSTAD – During Karnaval pa Mucha (Children's Carnival) last Sunday, three arrests were made. However, it was a festive day with 22 groups participating.
All three arrests took place at the end of the day. At 5:45 PM, a 17-year-old boy was arrested at Brionplein for possession of marijuana. Around 6:15 PM, a 49-year-old man was arrested on Roodeweg after being found with several joints and Ecstasy pills. Around 7:00 PM, another arrest occurred involving a man who refused to comply with police orders. The police did not disclose the location of this arrest.
The police had already announced last week that they would be enforcing a zero-tolerance policy during carnival. Violating the rules or failing to follow police orders can result in immediate arrests. This policy has been in place in recent years as well.
Otherwise, the Children’s Carnival was a particularly festive event. The parade, with numerous children participating in 22 groups, started at Palu Blanku and ended at Brionplein.
The upcoming carnival schedule in Curaçao is as follows:
Friday, February 28 – Teener Parade
Saturday, March 1 – Carnaval Banda’bou
Sunday, March 2 – Gran Marcha
Monday, March 3 – Closing of Children’s Carnival
Tuesday, March 3 – Marcha di Despedida (Farewell Parade for Adults’ Carnival)
