WILLEMSTAD – Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with an extortion case linked to the theft of a vehicle at the end of January, the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) confirmed.
The case relates to a car theft that occurred on January 29 at Kaya Macario Prudencia. Following the theft, the suspects allegedly contacted the vehicle’s owner and demanded money in exchange for returning the car.
Last week, police arrested two suspects, aged 23 and 27, and indicated at the time that further arrests were possible as the investigation continued.
On Tuesday afternoon, a 37-year-old man born in Curaçao was taken into custody on suspicion of extortion. He is currently being held at the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou.
The suspect has been presented before an assistant prosecutor, who ordered that he remain in custody while the investigation proceeds.
Police are urging residents who become victims of theft not to pay money to recover stolen property, but to immediately report the incident to authorities.
