Third group of Marechaussee to strengthen boundary supervision

Local | By Correspondent December 29, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - On January 9 the third group of new Marechaussees (military police) will arrive at Curaçao. Then more checks can be expected on Hato in the context of transnational crime, the police reported.

The collaboration with the Dutch Marechausse stems from the Border Control Reinforcement Protocol of the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, which was agreed on 4 February 2021 between the countries in the Kingdom.

The first two groups of Marechaussee arrived on the island on July 4 and October 17. This means that the front line of Border Control at the airport and the maritime port now consists of colleagues from the Curacao police and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee

During the past period, the police and Marechaussee have invested in the HOI principle, enforcement, investigation and Intel. In this way they combat migration crime on a professional, more efficient and more effective form.
