The unemployed were robbed during corona pandemic

Local | By Correspondent November 3, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - A former employee of the Ministry of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW) has pocketed financial support for the unemployed during the corona pandemic. That is according to a case that went to court this week.

The theft of the funds took place in the period from December 1 to July 31. The suspect transferred 140,000 guilders to his own account, which was actually intended as support for the unemployed.

Although quite a few witnesses have already spoken, the suspect has made a request to postpone the trial to another date because he wants to hear additional witnesses. This request has been accepted and three additional witnesses will speak. The case will be arraigned on November 23.
