The Netherlands investigates the effect of financial support for CAS islands

Local | By Correspondent September 16, 2022

THE HAGUE - The Netherlands will conduct research into the effect of financial support to Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. State Secretary of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) Alexandra van Huffelen announced this in a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives.

This concerns the annual repayment of debts since 2010, but also incidental contributions such as the settlement of the Giro Bank and the corona loans of the islands. The support is intended to give the islands more financial independence. The ministry now wants to investigate whether the support is having the desired effect.

The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations more often conducts research into the effectiveness of the policy, but this is the first time that financial support has been examined.
