WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato wants a ban on nitrous oxide. With the ban, the minister says he wants to reduce recreational use and limit the supply.
Laughing gas is being used more and more. This can cause more health problems, such as headaches, dizziness, and tingling in the hands and feet. Excessive use can lead to nerve damage and, in the worst case, to paralysis, according to a study by the Trimbos Institute.
Legislation to regulate a ban is being prepared. The professional use of nitrous oxide for medical and technical purposes remains permitted.
In the Netherlands, there is already a ban on laughing gas. Since January 1, 2023, the trade, possession, and production of laughing gas for recreational use is prohibited.
