The Hague writes off 76 million repayment of liquidity support to CAS countries

Local | By Correspondent April 28, 2023

THE HAGUE - The Rutte Cabinet assumes in advance that the liquidity loans (1.034 billion euros) granted to Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten will be extended. This can be deduced from the Spring Memorandum published today.

At the moment, the countries are still in negotiations with The Hague about the continuation of the loans, which will expire on October 10th. Earlier this week, it became apparent that there is currently no prospect of an agreement for Aruba because the Wever-Croes Cabinet has reneged on the agreement to cooperate with the Aruba Financial Supervision Kingdom Act.

It seems, however, that the Dutch government does expect the countries to repay a portion of the liquidity support this year. In the Spring Memorandum, under the title "Estimate of liquidity loan repayments," 76 million euros are budgeted for 2023.
