The government provides more information about the Zakito project

WILLEMSTAD - There is a master plan between the Government of Curaçao, the Curaçao Tourist Board, together with various investors for the development of the Zakito area. This is the area from the entrance at Aqualectra to approximately reaching the WTC building in Piscadera. The goal of this development program is to improve our corridors and expand the tourist sector in the area. An important aspect for the community is that the corridor remains available for the people to walk or exercise every day at any time, and this will be completely renovated.

In addition to this, it is important to mention that since May 2023, the government has issued various permits to the company Royal Holding Company II B.V. as part of the development of a yacht marina in the Zakito area. The company will be able to build a breakwater and a movable bridge, in accordance with Curaçao's laws on maritime management ('Landsverordening Maritiem Beheer'), and construction and housing ('Landsverordening Bouw- en Woningverordening'). On this occasion, the Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature also granted an exemption according to the local laws regarding reef management ('Rifbeheersverordening') for the aforementioned constructions. Therefore, the developer must comply with all applicable regulations. Care must also be taken to protect the mangrove trees.

The government emphasizes that these types of projects also give a boost to the maritime economy in the Zakito area.
