The Curaçao Museum Celebrates 77th Anniversary with Student Art Exhibition

Local | By Correspondent March 4, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – This Friday, March 7, marks exactly 77 years since The Curaçao Museum first opened its doors to the public. To celebrate this milestone, the museum is hosting a special exhibition titled "SCHOOLVOORBEELDEN", showcasing the creativity of secondary school students who have crafted their own three-dimensional artworks as part of the SchoolvoorBeeld educational project.

The project provided students with the opportunity to explore sculpture through the Blue Bay Sculpture Garden. Through interactive digital lessons, they learned about various artworks, materials, and the stories behind the sculptures. A visit to the garden allowed them to see the artworks in person and connect them to subjects like history, geography, biology, and social studies.

Inspired by this experience, the students, under the guidance of their teachers, created their own sculptures, experimenting with materials that hold a direct link to Curaçao’s cultural and natural heritage.

A Platform for Young Talent

A total of 28 classes from six secondary schools participated in the project, including students from Maria Immaculata Lyceum, Radulphus College, and Fundashon pa Skol Humanista na Papiamentu.

With this exhibition, The Curaçao Museum not only provides a stage for young talent but also strengthens the bond between art and education. Visitors will gain unique insight into the students' creative process—what inspired them, which techniques they used, and how they translated Curaçao’s culture and nature into their work.

The museum invites the public to celebrate this special anniversary while supporting the next generation of local artists.
