WILLEMSTAD - As United Nations Day on October 24th 2023 draws near, commemorating the ratification of the UN Charter, the Consular Corp of Curaçao, in collaboration with Toastmasters and Uniting for Children, is thrilled to announce its annual UN Day Speech Contest with a grand prize of 1,000 guilders for the winner, 500 guilders for second place, and 200 guilders for third. All finalists will receive instruction from toastmasters and the opportunity to read their essays to HE the Governor of Curaçao, Consuls, and other dignitaries of the island.
In this year's UN Day Speech Contest, participating children each penned a 500-word essay in English, choosing from one of three topics: envisioning Curaçao's future, determining the industry Curaçao should develop today, or reflecting on the role of tradition in today's society.
The primary objective of the contest was to motivate these young minds to apply an international lens to local challenges, fostering a perspective that merges global awareness with homegrown solutions. Moreover, the initiative hopes to cultivate a nascent leadership mindset in the participants, inspiring them to approach challenges with vision, understanding, and forward-thinking.
Entries were welcomed this year from following schools: International school(ISC), SKAIH, Radulphus College, Kolegio Alejandro Paula (KAP), Dr. Albert Schweizer College, Maria Immaculata Lyceum (MIL), Vespucci College (havo/vwo), Abel Tasman College (havo/vwo), Miguel Pourier Academy (havo/vwo).
The contest will be held on October 24th at Avila from 11:45 to 14:30. For more information please contact us @: consular.corps.curacao@gmail.com
