The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announces the initiative “Light the World with Love”

WILLEMSTAD - Light the World is an initiative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint which focuses on two fundamental pillars which are Love and Serve one another. With this campaign, the Church invites children and adults to transform Christmas into a season to give and serve. “It is a world movement which touches the heart and change the lives of others by doing what Christ has done: feed the hunger, comfort those that are alone, visit the sick and show kindness. This is the way we can remember the example of Christ and his birth,” says the national director of communications Sharelis Browne to Curaçao Chronicle.

For fifteen consecutive years, the Church has been organizing this global event to motivate the people to do simple acts with great value for others. The theme this year is to “Light the World with Love”. The campaign includes a calendar with daily challenges which can be done throughout the month of December.

To initiate the campaign, the Church in Curaçao has donated facemasks to the drivers of the bus company ABC Curaçao as a token of gratitude for their work during the pandemic. The facemasks have the image of “Light the World with Love”.

Residents can also get their free calendar at the information desks of the ABC Company in Punda and Otrabanda or they can also check this at LighttheWorld.org. The Church will also show a video depicting the birth of Christ. This will be aired on TeleCuraçao. There will also be some digital billboards with the “Light the World” images.

“The Church firmly believes that if we can focus more on what we can do for others we will be truly happy, and this will illuminate our own lives. We have been through so much these past two years, a pandemic, closure of our border with the rest of the world, and more. It is necessary to do things which can bring hope for ourselves and others,” says Mrs. Browne.
