Tenth edition of Curaçao International Film Festival focuses on local film productions

Local | By Correspondent December 27, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The tenth edition of the Curaçao International Film Festival (CIFF) will take place from April 10 to 14, with a special focus on local and regional film productions. In September, the organization called on local and regional filmmakers to submit their feature films and short films.

This call resulted in a significant submission of inspiring local and regional productions. "The film industry in Curaçao and the region has undergone impressive development in recent years," says Michael Elias, director of CIFF. "The level of submissions is high, and we have already selected some gems that will shine during the festival. Submissions are still possible until the end of this year."

Highlights

One of the highlights of CIFF 2024 will be the premiere of a unique documentary about a highly esteemed and versatile artist from the Kingdom. Additionally, there is a special program dedicated to short films created by local students with a smartphone, under the guidance of Anja van Bergen. These stories promise engaging content for two short films.

Another special collaboration is with the Curaçao Youth Orchestra under the direction of Dennis Aalse. They will perform film music related to world-famous films and international composers.

Yellow Robin Award

During CIFF 2024, the Yellow Robin Award will once again be presented. In collaboration with the Morelia Film Festival in Mexico, promising filmmakers from Latin America and the Caribbean are selected for a chance to win this award. The winner will have the opportunity to showcase their film at the Morelia Film Festival 2024 in Mexico and will receive a cash prize along with an educational program or contribution to a new production.

The production of the festival this year is entirely in the hands of a local team from Curaçao. Sulin Passial leads the organization and coordination of the various program components, while Percy Pinedo handles PR. The local marketing agency Factory360 assists with the promotion of the festival.

More details about specific program components will be announced at the end of January, and the final program for the tenth edition of the Curaçao International Film Festival is expected at the end of March.
