WILLEMSTAD – A coordinated inspection at a construction site near Habitat in Coral Estate led to the detention of ten individuals on Tuesday for lacking valid residency or work permits.
The operation was carried out by a multidisciplinary team consisting of the Social Insurance Bank (SVB), the Tax Accountants Bureau Foundation (SBAB), the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW), and the Curaçao Police Force (KPC).
Out of the twelve individuals checked at the site, only two had the proper documentation and were allowed to continue working. The other ten were taken in for further investigation and are awaiting the next steps in the legal process.
Authorities also issued a warning to the site’s owner. The raid is part of a broader initiative aimed at combating illegal employment on the island and raising employer awareness about their legal responsibility to hire only individuals with the proper papers.
