Temporary traffic and order measures announced for October 10, 2023, celebration

WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Justice and the Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Spatial Planning have released information regarding temporary traffic and order measures for the upcoming October 10 celebration. 

As preparations for the celebration of Constitutional Reform in Curaçao are set to begin on Sunday, October 8, 2023, with the main events taking place in Willemstad on Monday, October 9, and Tuesday, October 10, 2023, authorities have deemed it essential to implement specific traffic and order measures in the interest of public safety and to ensure the smooth execution of these events. 

In accordance with the provisions of P.B. 1975, no. 131, and P.B. 1977, no. 107, along with the Traffic Ordinance Curaçao 2000 (A.B. no. 54), the following temporary traffic measures will be in place: 

From 11:00 PM on Sunday, October 8, 2023, until 11:00 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Hendrikplein will be closed to all traffic. This closure includes a prohibition on parking in the areas to the east of Wilhelminaplein and the central parking spaces within Hendrikplein near the "Yabi di sentro di suidat" (center of care bus). 

On Monday, October 9, 2023, from 3:00 PM until Tuesday, October 10, at 3:00 AM, and on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 6:00 AM until 11:00 PM, traffic will not be permitted in the direction of Wilhelminaplein and Breedestraat (P). Additionally, access to Hendrikplein at the former Koko Loko CD Center will be restricted. The parking spaces and taxi stands on Breedestraat (P) will also be unavailable during this time. 

On Monday, October 9, 2023, from 6:00 PM until Tuesday, October 10, at 3:00 AM, and on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 6:00 AM until 11:00 PM, access to Gouvernementsplein in the direction of Handelskade from Plasa Piar and Waterfortstraat will be prohibited. Furthermore, parking spaces on Waterfortstraat and in front of the former Plaza Hotel cannot be utilized. 

All individuals are required to promptly and strictly adhere to any instructions provided by the police in the interest of maintaining public order, traffic safety, and overall freedom. 

These specified measures will remain in effect as long as they are deemed necessary for the preservation of public order and safety by the police.
