WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao’s Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN), Javier Silvania, has announced the creation of a temporary task force to tackle critical issues at Wit Gele Kruis Curaçao (WGK), a health care provider. This decision comes in response to a recent audit that revealed severe financial deficits, staffing shortages, and insufficient supplies.
The task force has been established to ensure the continuity and quality of care provided to vulnerable groups on the island. The team will address several key areas of concern:
First, the task force will work to resolve the material shortages that have been impacting WGK’s operations. This involves securing the necessary supplies to maintain effective healthcare services.
Second, the team will evaluate WGK’s financial situation to identify the root causes of the deficits and propose recommendations for re-prioritizing financial resources. This financial review aims to stabilize the organization and ensure it can continue to function effectively.
Additionally, the task force will analyze personnel costs to optimize staffing and improve resource management. This includes assessing current staffing levels and making adjustments as needed to enhance efficiency.
Finally, the task force will undertake a comprehensive review of the tariff structure. This overhaul will align the fee system with the current financial realities and operational needs of WGK.
The task force comprises members from WGK’s management team, representatives from the CBV union, and policy staff from the GMN Ministry. Their collaborative effort is expected to address the immediate challenges facing WGK and improve the overall quality of care for those who rely on its services.
