Teen Parade Kicks Off Carnival With Civil Servants Getting Half-Day Off

Local, Entertainment, | By Correspondent February 13, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The festive Teenerparade, one of the highlight events of Curaçao’s Carnival season, gets underway this Friday afternoon with streets filled with music, color and youthful energy. The parade begins at the intersection of the F.D. Rooseveltweg and Jan Noorduynweg and proceeds toward Brionplein in Otrobanda.

To give public sector workers the opportunity to participate in the celebrations, the government has granted civil servants a half-day off starting at 12:00 PM, the Ministerie van Bestuur, Planning en Dienstverlening confirmed. The early release allows employees to enjoy the parade festivities with family and friends before work would normally end.

Businesses Encouraged to Follow Suit

The Vereniging Bedrijfsleven Curaçao (VBC) has urged private sector companies to consider giving their staff a similar early dismissal. The business association says nearly three-quarters of its members support companies closing early so workers can safely attend not only the Teenerparade but also the Afscheidsparade (farewell parade) planned later in the Carnival week.

The Teenerparade (Marcha Tiner) is a lively youth carnival procession featuring colorful costumes, music and 15 participating groups. It celebrates the island’s rich Carnival tradition and highlights the enthusiastic participation of Curaçao’s younger generation in cultural festivities.

Looking Ahead

In addition to Friday’s parade, the VBC recommendation covers the Tuesday farewell parade during Carnival week, when crowds gather again for one of the season’s most popular events. The call for early closures reflects the deep social and cultural importance of Carnival on the island, as businesses, government and communities unite to support the celebrations.

As Carnival continues, residents and visitors alike can look forward to more parades and festivities that define this unique cultural season in Curaçao.
