WILLEMSTAD – The teachers' union DOEN has filed a lawsuit against the government for failing to respond to its objection regarding the rejection of its membership application to the Central Committee of Trade Unions (CCvV), reports the evening newspaper Amigoe.
The union has been waiting for over a year for a reply and had set a deadline of March 20 for the government to respond—a deadline that has since passed without action.
According to DOEN president Marbella Felipa, the union’s initial membership request was denied on the grounds that it allegedly did not meet the necessary criteria. "During discussions in 2020, it was agreed that DOEN could submit a written objection, after which a response would be provided within two weeks. However, this response never came," Felipa stated.
DOEN is now seeking judicial clarity on its admission to the CCvV/CGOA, a body in which five other trade unions are currently recognized by the government.
